Since the Cash Security Ordinance (KassenSichV) took effect, strict requirements have applied to all electronic cash register systems. These requirements include the obligation to issue receipts, integrate a TSE, and correctly store and issue QR codes on receipts. These measures aim to provide a certain level of protection against manipulation and ensure transparent cash management.
The technical security device (TSE) protects your cash register data using digital signatures. It records every process in an audit-proof manner and allows you to create legally required exports, such as DSFinV-K, as well as all TSE data.
A missing or faulty TSE can have unpleasant consequences. Those who ignore the requirements risk not only expensive back payments during tax audits, but also additional fines, which can sometimes end up in the high six-digit range.
Shopify offers a TSE app with only the most basic features: signing transactions and creating DSFinV-K exports. It's priced at around $9 per month. However, support and development are limited and therefore suboptimal, especially for German retailers.
